Meet the Coaches!
Head Coach: Alice Stoneback
Alice is a graduate of Alma College in Alma, Michigan. She has a B.A. with a major in French and a minor in English. She currently teaches at Manitou Springs High School and is pursuing a Master’s Degree at Colorado College.
Alice has been coaching the Mustang Cheerleaders since 2004. She started by helping out with some halftime dances in her first year teaching at Manitou, and then became the head coach in 2006. Alice does some of the choreography for the cheerleaders’ halftime and competition routines. Surprisingly, she has never been a cheerleader. In high school she was on the pom team and named MVP her senior year. Through both high school and college she ran cross country and track.
Alice is also a Student Council Advisor at Manitou. When she’s not spending all of her time at school, she hangs out with her husband Matt (Eddy Sound) and their Golden Retriever Anouk.
Assistant Coach: Melanie McLaren
Melanie is a 2007 graduate of Manitou Springs High School. She is currently attending University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She is pursuing a B.A. in Biology.
This is Melanie’s seventh year with the Manitou cheer program. She was on the team for two years, serving as captain her senior year. She began coaching the summer of 2007. She now choreographs many halftime and competition stunt sequences and has brought gymnastics to life on the Manitou team.
In what little spare time she has, Melanie loves to watch football and visit her family in Alabama.
Volunteer Coach: Jan Williams
Jan is a graduate and alumni cheerleader of Harrison High School and the University of Northern Colorado. She has a B.S. in Social Science and Physical Education and a Master’s in H.P.E.R. from Central Washington University.
Jan has been involved in the Manitou cheer program since it’s infancy in 2003. She has become the fundraising diva and designated doctor for the team.
When Jan is not coaching, she is supporting her high school and college children at many events. She and her husband often travel and are die-hard Air Force fans.
